Typically you would use one in the Wall socket, one in the patch panel.
By plugging one economiser direct into a wall outlet and another into a patch panel at the other end
one cable run of 4 twisted pair can be used to transmit 2 sets of data signals. Cat5e only utilises 2 of the four pairs of wires (wires 1,2,3,6) inside the cable. These splitters allow data from one connection to be sent down the usual wires 1,2,3,6 and the data from the second connection to be sent down the other cables (wires 4,5,7,8).
These can be used with both Straight cable and Crossover Cable connections.
When the signal reaches the other end, it must be split again back into 2 separate cables. This is why they are used in pairs. These are intended for Data transmission and not for Voice. They are not suitable for telephones or for sharing a Broadband connection.
